German SS Divisions: Their Logos



1 st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler served as a skeleton key (not the key, as is often wrongly thought).  The choice of this unusual emblem can be easily explained. In German, "Dietrich" means "Skeleton Key". "Sepp Dietrich was the commander of the division.

 The emblem of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich, 4th mechanized infantry division of police and 34 th SS Division Landstorm Nederland had "volfsangeli" ("wolf's hook") of various configurations.

The emblem of the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf  - skull and bones, in full accordance with the name of this division.

The emblem of the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking and the 11th volunteer mechanized infantry division of the SS Nordland - kosovidny cross (the emblem of the Nordland Division had the same "kosovidny cross", but inscribed in a circle)

6th SS Division Nord is a mining-arrow-hand - Fleece "gagal" 442.

The emblem of the 7th Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen SS (Eugen) - Fleece "ODALEN" (in this case, the emblem of the division is identical to the familiar Lavalier ranks of this division, which, however, was the exception rather than the rule).

 The emblem of the 8th Cavalry Division Florian Geyer HS - horse head on his sword, pointing to the diagonal upward.

The emblem of the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen - Latin block capital letter H (in German: Hohenstaufen), crossed the middle of the vertical straight edge of his sword upward.

The emblem of the 10th SS Panzer Division Frundsberg - a capital letter F, superimposed on an oak leaf.

The emblem of the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitler Youth - single fleece "signal" (the symbol of the Nazi youth organization Jungfolk and Hitler, whose members were recruited from volunteers of the Waffen SS division), superimposed on a skeleton key ("Eyes on Dietrich!").

 The emblem of the 14th Waffen SS Division Galicia  - lion, marching on its hind legs, surrounded by three royal crowns.

The emblem of the 15th Grenadiers (Latvian № 1) Division of the Waffen SS - the Roman numeral I on a stylized Latin block capital lettered L (Latvia).

The emblem of the 16th mechanized infantry divisions SS Reichsfuhrer SS - a stack of three oak leaf with two acorns from cuttings in a frame of a laurel wreath (as in his buttonhole Reichsfuhrer SS Heinrich Himmler).

The emblem of the 30th Waffen SS Grenadier Division (Russian № 2) - Double Cross St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk.

The emblem of the 31th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division (23rd Volunteer Mountain Division of the Waffen SS) - the head of a deer.

The emblem of the SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Bohemia-Moravia - Bohemian (Czech) crowned lion, marching on its hind legs, and power, crowned by a double cross.

The emblem of the Serbian Volunteer Corps SS - ears of corn on the shield superimposed on a naked sword arm straight up (in fact - the emblem of Serbian monarchist-fascist organization ZB R. O. Dmitriev Letichev, whose members formed the backbone of the Serbian Volunteer Corps).
